Natural Acne Remedies

When most people look to medical science for a cure for what ails them, they tend to look for the newest, most scientifically advanced formulation out there. It’s a natural habit; if a better cure was already known, well, everyone would know about it and everyone would be using it, right? While that may be the case in some instances, in others, the best cures have been around for millennia, but only part of the world may know about them. When it comes to treating acne outbreaks, the root of the licorice plant might be one of the best cures out there, and believe it or not, people have been using it to treat skin conditions for over a thousand years!

Most Westerners only know licorice as a favorite candy treat, but the licorice root also contains significant medicinal properties. The most common way that folks today use licorice root is with licorice root extract. You can usually find the extract at your local health food store or at a natural food store. You apply the pungent scented extract directly to the skin, making sure to give already formed pimples a direct shot and giving the rest of your problem areas a good once over. Since licorice root extract can tend to be a bit on the expensive side, make sure to use it sparingly.

Licorice root helps the skin repair itself, and since damaged skin is significantly more likely to fall victim to acne outbreaks, it only makes sense that this ancient cure all would assist in reducing the number of outbreaks the average acne sufferer has. Many people also use the licorice root in beverages, in cooking and in a mask-like paste that is applied directly to the skin, although the extract has shown to be the most effective in fighting skin problems.
