If you were to view a sample of the top 10 leading anti-acne commercials on television, you would be lead to believe that no one over the age of 18 has ever had a pimple. The nationwide commercials and ad campaigns for everything from Oxy to Stridex are aimed solely at teenagers, but adult acne can be a real problem, too. It can present a whole host of problems that teens never have to face, like heading to your career job on the morning of a severe breakout, as well as serious (see: not teen) dating with acne. The book, “Healing Adult Acne” by the ironically named Richard Fried talks about these issues as well as ways adults can try to rid themselves of this condition with a helpful tone and pleasant manor.

This book also takes a look at another important stage in our lives where we might develop acne: as seniors. More and more women are reporting bouts of acne at the onset of menopause, as estrogen level decrease in the body. Men can experience a similar experience as they age, as well, and there are few books that help people deal with not only the physical affects of having acne at that age but the psychological effects, as well.

If you are an adult who has experienced acne outbreaks, this book should serve as a guide through the tumultuous recovery process. Along with sound advice from your dermatologist, this book can help take care of the psychological impact of having acne. In addition, there are also support groups, both online and in person that adult acne sufferers can attend. Depression and even suicide related to adult acne is very real. If you feel that your adult acne is having a deep affect on you, pick up this book and seek professional medical attention before it’s too late.
