Natural Acne Treatment

Acne is often thought of as only a surface problem. After all, the skin is on the outside of the body; so many people believe that the solution is best applied at the surface. While there are many natural and prepared treatments for acne available that can dramatically decrease the appearance of acne, one should also consider how their diet and lifestyle could be contributing to the problem of acne. Diet and lifestyle changes can be a great natural acne treatment.

The following simple lifestyle changes may help those with acne:

1) The face should be washed every day with a mild cleanser. At the very least, you should wash your face in the morning and in the evening, but if you sweat a great deal during the day or if you get very dirty during the day, you should wash your face more often. Surface dirt, sweat, and oils produced by the skin can get stuck in your pores and cause problems.

2) Keep your hands away from your face. If you often sit with your chin resting on your hand, you may find that pimple appear on your chin. Wiping or rubbing your face with your hands can work surface impurities down into the pores, clogging them. If you must touch your face with your hands, it is a good idea to wash your hands first.

3) If you must wear makeup, wash it off as soon as possible. Whatever you do, do not sleep with makeup on. Not only can this prolonged contact clog pores and cause irritation, but rubbing your face into your pillow during sleep can grind the makeup into your pores along with all the dirt and oil from the day.

Diet changes like these can make a difference for people with chronic acne:

1) Drink plenty of water. Drinking enough water everyday helps your body get rid of harmful substances and all the by-product it can’t use. If you don’t drink enough water, these harmful things tend to stay in your system and can cause problems inside and out.

2) Try to avoid greasy foods whenever possible. Your mother was right- greasy foods like French fries really can cause zits. This is doubly true if you finish your fries and then touch your face.

3) Ditto on the sugary foods. Candy, cakes, cookies, and soda pop are all loaded with simple sugars. Your body simply doesn’t need all that, and it can cause numerous health problems. One of the problems sugar can cause is elevated blood sugar which, believe it or not, can contribute to acne problems. When the blood sugar is too high, your body cannot heal the way it should, and this includes any type of break in the skin-like pimples.

If you think your diet may be contributing to or causing your acne problems, you should see your healthcare provider or seek the advice of a qualified nutritionist. Taking care of diet and lifestyle problems can be an excellent natural acne treatment and can help you look better and feel better.
