In recent years, people have begun to pay more attention to natural alternatives in every single area of life. We have realized the damage that can be done with chemicals and pollutants. This is becoming apparent in the number of natural products that are available today. Only ten years ago, there were a handful of companies that offered natural alternative to the products people were using. Today, there are literally thousands of companies offering natural and environmentally friendly alternatives to everything from cleaning products and clothing to building materials. One can perform an internet search and find a natural alternative for anything they want. This amazing progress has prompted a great deal of research into the effectiveness of natural products like green tea for a variety of uses.
Green tea has been studied for effectiveness in treating everything from obesity to cancer. It is widely recognized as a healthy alternative to other caffeinated beverages such as coffee. Some studies suggest that it can have a general detoxifying effect on the body. Many people drink green tea every day as part of a healthy diet. While there is nothing wrong with the green tea sold in grocery stores, there is higher quality green tea available at health food stores and through online specialty tea shops. It is generally best to buy high quality green tea and then bag it yourself in unbleached tea bags or use one of the many types of tea infusers available.
In addition to its usefulness as a refreshing beverage, it can be very useful in the treatment of acne. To use it as a natural acne treatment, steep one or two green tea bags in a bowl of hot water for ten to fifteen minutes. Let the tea cool a bit so that it is still warm, but not so hot that a burn may result. Dab the tea onto clean skin with a soft cloth. The teabags themselves can also be used to apply the tea to the face. After about ten minutes, rinse face with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel. This treatment can be done as often as you like. If body acne is a problem, you can actually make a bath out of green tea. Simply follow the directions above, using about a gallon of hot water in a pitcher or stock pot and a dozen tea bags. Add the tea to bathwater and soak.
Another use for green tea is as a treatment for dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. After steeping the teabags as directed above, place warm tea bags on the eye area and leave on for about ten to twenty minutes. Warm tea bags have been a favorite natural treatment for under eye circles and puffiness for many years.
Though unlikely, irritation can occur in some people. If any redness, don’t use it any more.
